The neighborhood roughly stretches from 7th and Broad Streets, between South and Chestnut Streets, and borders on Market East to the northwest, Independence Mall tourist area to the northeast, Bella Vista to the south, Old City and Society Hill to the east, Hawthorne to the southwest, and Rittenhouse Square and mid-town Philadelphia over to the west.
The nation’s oldest hospital – Pennsylvania Hospital – in addition to Philadelphia’s Antique Row both reside within the Washington Square West neighborhood.
