Bella Vista is a neighborhood in the southern section of Philadelphia. Its boundaries include South Street, Washington Street, 6th Street, and 11th Street. The name Bella Vista hails from the Italian for ‘beautiful sight’ which was bestowed upon the area as it was the first neighborhood in Philadelphia to be settled by Italian immigrants. The Bella Vista neighborhood is considered to be the brunch capital of Philadelphia.
Things to do and See in Bella Vista
The Italian Market Walking Tour is a guided trek through a number of neighborhoods in the vicinity. This tour is all about Italy and Italian food and traditions. All the same, the market is not entirely Italian and the stalls and shops are shared between Italians, Vietnamese, Mexican, and Korean, to name but a few of the cultures involved. The tour is scheduled on a year-round basis and sets out from the corners of 9th Street and South Street.
Concerts are held by the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society within a variety of locations around Philadelphia, including Bella Vista and the surrounding neighborhoods. Prices do vary and special rates are available for students.
For those who enjoy beer tasting events, the Craft Beer Express Pub Crawl offers multiple pick-up points around the local neighborhoods. The duration of the ‘tour’ is some eight hours in length which allows those that partake in it some serious time for enjoyment. All the same, the tour is only available throughout the months of March and November. The Fleisher Art Memorial at 719 Catharine Street holds regular art classes and exhibitions in addition to a variety of other art-related events.
